Tyres are one of the most basic and/yet important parts of a vehicle. They have been around even before the advent of vehicles. With changing times, tyres underwent their own evolutionary process as well. Modern tyres are made up of natural and synthetic rubber amalgamated with different metals and chemicals. Thus, they provide various benefits to a car by supporting its weight , changing or maintaining direction. They also provide accelerating and decelerating forces to the ground by absorbing shocks. Many things need to be taken into account while buying tyres. Buying unreliable ones or those who do not meet the safety criteria can be fatal. Tyres come with a lot of specifications and visible labels that need to be checked before purchasing them. Once these specifications are checked and tyres are bought, then comes the arduous task of fitting tyres.

Once the tyres reading have been bought, the process of fitting them can be complex but can be understood by a few easy steps.

Deflating and removing the old tyre

Valves are unscrewed and removed to release the air in the old tyre. Once the air is released, the old tyre is removed using a piece of equipment called tyre spreader.

Matching the specifications

All the specifications of the new tyres are matched with the specifications that are desired for the vehicle. Once these specifications are matched, then the diameter of tyre and rim should be matched.

How are the different tyres fitted?

It is checked if the tyre that is being fitted is tubeless or tube-type. For tube-type tyres, tyre fitter should be used, as tubes have the tendency to be stretched and there is a possibility of folds forming or even a tear if fitted otherwise. Tyre fitting reading provides an excellent place for such processes.

If the tyre that is being fitted is tubeless, the valves that are being equipped should be new.

Taking care of tyre beads

The rim and the beads are to be lubricated in this step. If the lubricant is not applied properly then the whole structure runs the risk of falling apart or not working in coordination. After the lubricant is being applied, then with the help of a tyre spreader, the tyre is mounted on the wheel.

Inflating the tyre

Now, this process can be hazardous and should be done by professionals. Even the professional mechanics maintain a reasonable distance from the tyre and use a long wire to fill the air.

Final fitting

Once the beads of the tyre are fitted properly with initial inflammation, the pressure in the tyre is increased to achieve the optimum grip on the tyre and the rim.

All these processes should not be attempted by someone who is not aware of the mechanics of the tyre. The air pressure is not something that can be dealt with easily. While inflating the tyre so much air is concentrated within such a small space that the chances of accidents increase manifolds. The tools that are used can also harm an inexperienced person. If one does not know the process then a professional should always be hired.
